Call Bubbie is a disability justice, peer support organization that advocates for folks who identify as neurodivergent, mentally ill, mad, and disabled located in Portland, OR.

Our peer support and resources are grounded in mad liberation and abolition. We adamantly opposed carceral intervention and prioritize acceptance, community, and co-regulation.

Reviews for our community peer visits:

I loved the resources they provided. Also so much laughing !! I really needed that. It was rly important for me to have queer and bipoc peer support. I was feeling rly low and have been institutionalized for almost 4 months and have physical and mental disabilities. Just being able to laugh and vent and have the energy matched was rly sick and I really enjoyed the experience!

It was such a special, unique experience getting peer support in a space that meant so much to me. There were many other things that, in retrospect, really added to my sense of comfort and safety: coming in with pairs (which made me feel far less alone!), the resource leaflet, candy bag – eating a candy was a good enough stim! I was so genuinely seen and comforted by the whole experience.

I think the model is really great - peer support to-go? That’s not something I’ve seen, and I think our community really needs mental health “interventions” that exist and begin before the “crisis” (or after, for that matter).

The Call Bubbie peers came to me which was really helpful. It took out the stress of having to leave my house by a certain time, or the feeling of needing to pay for a coffee or something if we met at a café. They were prepared with a print out list of resources (which I much prefer to a digital copy), were extremely friendly and allowed me the space to fill them in on my life without judgment in any way. They also were open in sharing some things they could relate to, which is helpful when offering a stranger vulnerability.

In talking and getting to know me better, they even suggested more resources on the spot. After they left they did research on some other ideas we talked about that I expressed interest in and followed through with providing links and information for those things as well.

I felt genuinely respected, seen, heard and left the interaction with reassurance, and hopefulness for things to come. It was a great experience and Call Bubbie has been a wonderful resource. They took out a lot of the tedious work of finding support that I would have otherwise not looked into. I would definitely recommend them and utilize their services again.
